SAVE THE DATES- SEPTEMBER 21, 22 2017-  This fall, WDA’s Death Penalty Assistance Project (DPAP), the WDA Investigator Network, and the Innocence Project NW are partnering to bring you a 2 day live CLE held at the UW School of Law in Seattle.  This CLE will be designed for lawyers and investigators.

 

 We are working to bring both national and local speakers to this training, including Jennifer Friedman, Deputy Public Defender for Los Angeles County and the Assistant Special Circumstances Coordinator and Forensic Science Coordinator for the Los Angeles County Public Defender’s office, and Chris Fabricant, the Director of the Strategic Litigation Unit at the Innocence Project in New York.

 

 ·         Jennifer is a frequent lecturer on the death penalty and the use of forensic sciences in the courts. Jennifer assists in the supervision of the office’s capital cases and represents clients charged with capital murder. She has tried over 140 felony jury trials many of which were sexual assaults and homicides involving complex scientific issues. She writes the expert section of the California Death Penalty Manual.

·         Chris Fabricant leads the Innocence Project's Strategic Litigation Department, whose attorneys develop and execute national litigation strategies to address the leading causes of wrongful conviction, including eyewitness misidentification, the misapplication of forensic sciences and false confessions. Chris has over a decade of criminal defense experience at the state, federal, trial and appellate levels with The Bronx Defenders and Appellate Advocates.

·         In re Heidi Fero: Shaking the Myth of Shaken Baby Syndrome, (In re Fero is currently pending at the WA Supreme Court)

·         Cross Exam of the Forensic Expert -A Ballistics Case Study

·         Investigating and Challenging Incentivized Testimony

·         Emerging Adults – Representing Youth and Young Adults in Homicide Cases

·         DNA Advances and Emerging Practice at the WSP Crime Lab

·         Digging for Gold: Records Collection for Mitigation Investigation
