The program will provide an update on the rapidly changing landscape of immigration law, with a focus on those changes that are relevant to defenders representing noncitizen clients now. The program will cover Washington’s sanctuary laws and how to make them work for our clients and in our cases.The program will also cover the effective use of WDA’s Immigration Project services. We will talk about immigration status: what it is, why it matters, how to figure it out; why we need to know the information on the intake form; and consequences and misperceptions of some common charges.
