Gause Law Offices, a boutique criminal defense firm located in Tukwila, WA is looking for our perfect fit – an experienced associate attorney to join our team. We are true-believers here – dedicated defenders of people’s rights and fierce advocates for our clients. No one here has ever been a prosecutor or worked for a prosecutor’s office. We value hard work, professionalism, integrity, accuracy, collaborative teamwork, zealous advocacy, good communication skills, and FUN.
Our ideal candidate is a WA licensed attorney who has at least 3-5 years of prior criminal defense experience in Washington.
You will be expected to “hit the ground running” taking felony cases from Day 1 with little training or supervision. You will be assigned cases on your own (solo) and also some cases with another attorney. You must have a demonstrated commitment to criminal defense practice – with the passion and heart to vigorously defend our client’s constitutional rights.
We are looking for someone who is adaptable, positive, and someone who can thrive in a fast-paced environment. You must be technologically savvy, an independent self-starter, patient, organized, and a creative problem-solver. Skills in business management, customer service and/or sales are appreciated, as you will be speaking with potential new clients.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Maintain an active caseload of 20-30 felony cases where you are responsible for all stages of the criminal case
- Assist attorneys with their caseloads, including appearing at hearings, drafting legal briefs and memoranda, legal research, and serving as co-counsel at felony trials
Requirements:
- Law degree, licensed in WA for 2+ years
- Minimum 3-5 years criminal defense experience, with some Class A felony experience
- Dedicated commitment to criminal defense law and serving people who have been accused of serious crimes
- Excellent legal research and writing skills
- Bilingual (Spanish) preferred
Salary: DOE and competitive. There will be additional compensation bonuses based on hard work.
Office: Gause Law Offices is part of an office share with other solo and small-firm attorneys in various practice areas. We have a large office space with receptionist, conference room, office equipment (phones, fax, large copier) and kitchen. Gause Law Offices also has three full-time paralegals to support attorneys. There are two current attorneys, and you would be completing our team as the third attorney.
Benefits: Three weeks paid vacation, subject to prior approval. Gause Law Offices will also pay for attorney’s malpractice insurance, annual bar license, and may also pay for various continuing legal education and networking events that further the firm’s image and marketing.
Position ideally begins in March, 2022, with flexibility on start date for the right candidate.
To apply: Please email a PDF resume, targeted cover letter, and criminal law writing sample to Emily M. Gause. Please include “Associate Position” in the subject line. The top three candidates will be interviewed.
