Busy law firm seeks a misdemeanor-level public defender to provide legal representation to indigent clients charged with criminal offenses in Aberdeen, Washington. This is a full-time position. Applicants should be licensed attorneys in the state of Washington or Rule 9 qualified interns awaiting Bar Exam results. Our firm offers paid training, a flexible work schedule, and a casual and collaborative work environment. While the firm mainly focuses on criminal defense, applicants with other legal skill sets (family, juvenile, civil, etc) are encouraged to apply. Our firm has offices in Shelton, Montesano, Poulsbo, and Tacoma, Washington.
Job Duties:
As a misdemeanor-level public defender, you will gain court and trial experience while working closely with team members to represent clients. Duties to include pre-trial and trial preparation; litigating all aspects of the case through disposition; promoting and protecting the best interest of the client at all times, maintaining client contact by telephone, appointments, or institutional visits; appearing at all regularly scheduled court dockets and all appearances concerning the assigned caseload-including daily in-custody hearings if any; drafting motions and pleadings.
