Term Law Clerks to U.S. District Judge James L. Robart

Open until filled; interviews anticipated to occur in December 2023 and January 2024.

The U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington is seeking qualified candidates from all backgrounds for two positions as Term Law Clerks for United States District Judge James L. Robart in Seattle, Washington. The start dates for these positions are in September
2024 (specific dates negotiable). These positions are full-time (80 hours per two-week period). The term for these position is a minimum of one year, with an option to extend the term by mutual agreement of the candidate and Judge Robart.

Representative Duties: Law clerks work closely with the Judge on civil and criminal litigation filed in District Court. Law clerks conduct research and prepare drafts of opinions and orders. Law clerks will also have the opportunity to work on various long-term projects, be involved in courtroom proceedings, and assist in the judicial extern program.

Qualifications: Candidates must possess excellent research and writing skills. They must also be law school graduates from an accredited law school; be organized and work well independently; be experienced with Word, Westlaw, Lexis, and related software; and have a demonstrated commitment to diversity and an inclusive work environment. Judge Robart prefers candidates who have a connection to Washington State and who served on a law journal during law school. Candidates must have at least one year of post-law school clerkship experience or litigation experience. Applicants with significantly more than one year of litigation experience are encouraged to apply.
