Washington Appellate Project Seeks Staff Attorney

The Washington Appellate Project is hiring a staff attorney. The Washington Appellate Project is a nonprofit public defense firm of 15 attorneys providing the highest quality representation to indigent clients appealing criminal convictions, civil commitments and termination of parental rights throughout the State of Washington. Our office’s lawyers appear before the Washington Court of Appeals, the Washington Supreme Court and the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. We place a high value on collaboration and creative client-centered advocacy. Our attorneys have won numerous cases reshaping Washington’s criminal justice and family defense systems to address racial and economic disparity. These include cases invalidating Washington’s Death Penalty, bringing about juvenile justice reforms, and limiting financial penalties.

Our office is committed to creating a diverse and inclusive community. Preferred qualifications include superior written and oral advocacy skills and a strong commitment to working with low-income individuals and marginalized communities. Candidates must have three years of appellate experience and be eligible at the time of employment for admission to the Washington Bar pursuant to Washington Admission to Practice Rule 3.
