On April 5th, the Washington State Supreme Court adopted new General Rule (GR) 37 to eliminate the unfair exclusion of potential jurors based on race or ethnicity. Thanks to the hard work of community members, the jury selection work group, the ACLU, and the Court in taking this step forward in addressing one of the many areas where racial bias and inequity impact the ability of people of color in accessing justice and receiving fair outcomes in Washington’s courts.
