Whatcom County Public Defender’s Office is seeking a temporary Attorney.

The Whatcom County Public Defender is seeking a part-time grant-funded attorney to conduct Felony First Appearances during 2021.

Duties include representation of defendants at first appearance and arraignment hearings in Superior Court and District Court. This position does not require on-going representation of defendants

The position would entail approximately fifteen (15) hours per week, generally over two to three days per week. The hours run from 1:00 PM to approximately 4:30 PM on days worked.

 

          The Whatcom County Public Defender is seeking a part-time grant-funded attorney to conduct Felony First Appearances during 2021.  This position requires no criminal experience, but a background or interest in criminal law is preferred.  The position would entail approximately fifteen (15) hours per week, generally over two to three days per week.  The hours run from 1:00 PM to approximately 4:30 PM on days worked.  Compensation is $31/hour and is not negotiable.

Qualifications

Must be a current member in good standing of the Washington State Bar Association, OR must be a current member in good standing of another State Bar Association AND must become a member of the Washington State Bar Association by passing the next Washington State Bar exam

Background Check must meet County Criteria for criminal justice positions.

Must have a driving record that meets County standards and possess a valid driver’s license at time of hire and throughout employment.
