Registration is now open for WDA’s 2024 Defender Conference—Nuts and Bolts: Law and Skills You Can Use, happening April 26-27 at the beautiful Sun Mountain Lodge. The conference will focus on providing defenders with practical information about representing clients pretrial and following conviction that will help them be zealous, effective, and compassionate advocates.

Highlights include:

• Keynote Speaker Twyla Carter, Attorney-In-Chief at The Legal Aid Society, which handles public defense cases in New York City
• Kimberly Ambrose, Director of the Race and Justice Clinic at the University of Washington School of Law, on communicating clearly and effectively with clients
• Kathryn Russell Selk, Appellate Attorney, on using article I, section 7 of the Washington Constitution to get evidence suppressed
• Brit Kreimeyer, Defense Attorney at Thurston County Public Defense, on negotiations
