WDA Amicus Committee

WDA’s Amicus Committee reviews requests for Amicus support in cases that are important to indigent defense and the clients served by public defenders. WDA’s Amicus advocacy priority areas include:

  • Right to counsel, Standards of Indigent Defense, and public defense.
  • Incarceration and other restrictions on liberty.
  • Disproportionate treatment of individuals in the system. This includes, but is not limited to, racial inequity, socio-economic inequity, and disparate treatment against non-citizens.

If you are handling a matter at the appellate level that you would like WDA to provide amicus briefing on, or to sign on to your amicus, please contact [email protected].

WDA CLE Committee Opportunities

WDA CLE Planning Committee members work alongside WDA staff members to identify relevant content and knowledgeable speakers for our live and in-person all day events: the WDA Annual Defender Conference (held in April) and the Annual WDA Ethics CLE (held in December) and any other in person full day training events planned throughout the year.  Planning meetings will be virtual and will be held 1-2 times each year, approximately 3-4 months in advance of the events. All defense team members welcome!

External Workgroups and Committees

Each year WDA members serve as the defense representative in numerous workgroups and committees. If you are interested in getting involved, please reach out to WDA at [email protected] for more information.
