Call to Serve: Office of Public Defense Advisory Committee

The WSBA Board of Governors is accepting letters of interest and résumés from members interested in serving a three-year term on the Office of Public Defense Advisory Committee.

The term will begin on Jan. 1, 2024, and end on Dec. 31, 2027.

RCW 2.70.030 sets forth the duties of the members of the Office of Public Defense Advisory Committee. The Office of Public Defense’s Advisory Committee is committed to working with the Office of Public Defense to promote their values of Justice, Service, Equity and Excellence by meeting quarterly to recommend policies for the agency’s programs, advising the agency on oversight of its
programs, making recommendations regarding legislative positions and proposed rules, reviewing budgetary matters, considering appeals of billing decisions, and reviewing the performance of the OPD Director.

Restrictions: During the term of appointment, no appointee may: a) provide indigent defense services except on a pro bono basis; b) serve as a court employee or a judge except on a pro tem basis;
or c) serve as a prosecutor or prosecutor employee.
