Be Inert or Get Hurt: Blood Vial Contamination
Last October the Washington State Tox Lab revealed that BD, the manufacturer of the blood vials the lab uses, had issued a recall because vial stoppers release the chemical isobutylene into blood the vials hold. The resulting isobutylene contamination violates WAC 448-14-020(3), which requires an inert leak-proof stopper. Attorney Dustin Howie will discuss the law and science related to this issue. Defenders will leave this CLE ready to argue for suppression of their clients’ blood tests based on contamination from vial stoppers.
