Preparing Parents for Incarceration: Practical Considerations for Criminal Defenders

The Washington Defender Association’s Incarcerated Parents Project (IPP) attorney, D’Adre Cunningham, will present this informative one and a quarter hour webinar. The program objectives are to build competence in supporting child-parent relationships and mitigating familial separation as part of the normal course of defense representation. The presentation will:

  • introduce the resources available through Washington Defender Association’s Incarcerated Parents Project;
  • review impact of parental incarceration on children;
  • outline practice tips on removing sentencing conditions as barriers to parent-child relationships; and
  • review barriers for incarcerated parents after sentencing to legal services, visitation, and alternatives to confinement programs.

To register, email wda@defensenet.org with “IPP” in the subject line. 1.25 Law and Legal Procedure credits have been requested from the WSBA for this program.
