Pregnant and Heading to Prison? How To Support Your Client’s Application to Washington State Department Of Corrections (DOC)’S Residential Parenting Program
This CLE relates to negotiation, mitigation, and sentencing of pregnant people facing prison sentences.   This presentation is very suitable for criminal defenders, mitigation specialists, and other parent advocates practicing in Washington State or in federal court assisting pregnant people looking to keep their newborns with them and parenting them while serving their sentences at WA DOC.

The Residential Parenting Program will be described along with the benefits, requirements, eligibility, and application criteria.  Pregnant people who will serve sentences at Washington State Department of Corrections as well as the Federal Bureau of Prisons are eligible for placement.  Materials shared will focus on the importance of keeping postpartum people and their newborns together where possible. Presented by Lindsay Owens, Program Manager of the Early Head Start that partners with the Residential Parenting Program at the Washington Corrections Center for Women, and Ali Hohman, Director of Legal Services with WDA.
