Defenders can help their clients immensely by moving to remit their legal financial obligations (LFOs) at probation or other hearings. Skagit Legal Aid Executive Director Andy Dugan will provide an overview of how to move for remission. He will discuss the indigency requirements found in RCW 10.101.160 and provide a step-by-step overview of how to complete the mandatory petitions to waive LFOs required by General Rule 39 following the reforms promulgated by HB 1412 effective January 1, 2023. Defenders will leave this CLE knowing how to effectively ask courts to remit their clients’ LFOs. Presented by Andy Dugan (he/him/él), an attorney and the Executive Director for Skagit Legal Aid.
