Violating a no-contact order carries dangerous consequences for noncitizens. These convictions can (and do) trigger deportation and denial of immigration status for people with lawful status, as well as undocumented people. Complying with Padilla obligations when dealing with VNCO charges requires particular attention. This webinar will provide defenders with an understanding of the immigration consequences of VNCO and outline strategies to avoid them. Jonathan Moore and Stacy Taeuber from WDA’s Immigration Project will share best practices and common pitfalls, review hypothetical scenarios, and field questions.
