We are excited to be partnering again in 2019 with King County Department of Public Defense to offer this intensive week-long, hands-on trial advocacy program aimed at criminal defense attorneys with 0-3 years of practice experience. Participants will work in both a classroom setting and in small groups led by skilled trainers and defense practitioners. The training will cover many of the substantive skill based aspects of defense representation from charging through the resolution of a case. Participants will learn about a particular skill set such as cross-examination or sentencing advocacy and then put what they learn into practice with hands on exercises in small groups. Participants will receive individualized feedback from small group leaders. Some of the topics covered during the week long training may include: development of your case theory, client communication, release advocacy, cause-based voir dire, evidence blocking, opening statements, cross examination, closing arguments, prosecutorial misconduct and sentencing advocacy. Because of the focus and structure of this training this program, it is open to a limited number of attorneys with 0-3 years of practice experience.
