The Basics of Terry Stops
Investigations of our clients often start with Terry stops, allegedly brief interactions with police during which a client is not free to leave. This presentation will cover the basics of Terry stops and how to challenge them. It will address interactions with police from the fiction of a “social contact” the point at which the law says police seized your client. Stops of pedestrians, clients in parked cars and clients in moving cars will be covered. Presented by Cassie Trueblood.
