WDA is combining our annual ethics CLE with the celebration of our 40th anniversary on December 15, 2023 in Seattle. The CLE, Ethical Duties in Practice, will focus on practical information that will help defenders represent their clients ethically and competently. Speakers will address the rules of professional conduct and mitigation of racial bias in the criminal legal system. Specific topics include raising race in voir dire, duties to non-citizen clients, withdrawing when you have too many open cases, and balancing client confidentiality, candor to the court, and working with community.
