Storytelling through Impeachment: Getting from the Lie to the Why
The ability to effectively impeach witnesses is an important skill for defenders trying sex and domestic violence cases. Part of an effective impeachment is eliciting information that fits with the defender’s theory of the case. This 45-minute presentation offers practical advice on getting beyond the standard impeachment routine, with an eye toward turning impeachment into prime closing argument material. This presentation is rooted in research on how consumers of stories process and respond to information. Defenders will leave this session with fresh ideas about soliciting and using impeachment evidence.

Presented by Elbert Aull with King County Department of Public Defense.
