Victim and Witness Interviews – A joint presentation with Pierce County Department of Assigned Counsel
Victim and witness interviews by defense counsel are critical to appropriate investigation of criminal cases and to effective assistance of counsel. This brief program will explore the limits of a right of a defendant and their attorney to an interview with victims or witnesses, including citations to significant court decisions. It will also discuss the legal and ethical obligations of defense counsel in the conduct of such interviews with a brief focus on the victim bill of rights (ch 7.69 RCW) as well as RPC 4.1. Presented by Sara Alavi, Joel Harte, and Andrew Ricci with Pierce County Department of Assigned Counsel.
