Case Description: In 2017 California passed SB 54. The law limits California state and local law enforcement collaboration with ICE. In 2018 the Trump Administration sued California asking the court to enjoin provisions of SB 54. The court declined to enjoin the challenged provisions focused on local law enforcement), holding that California has authority to regulate conduct of its law enforcement agencies. The Trump Administration has appealed. The case has broad implications for King County and the other 170 jurisdictions who had passed similar laws.
